Stallman comes to town

Richard Stallman, or rms as he is often known, came to Melbourne for a visit just recently. He spoke at two public events, one for the ACS and one at uni. The topic was software patents, a topic of particular interest given the current situation in Europe, and the recent FTA agreement here in Oz.

Richard spoke to a packed house; the largest lecture theatre in the building was overflowing with people come to hear the founding father of the GNU project speak.

Flavours of spam

As if the email spammers weren't bad enough, we now have "comment spam". On this site I have allowed anonymous comments on posts, hoping that occasionally someone might actually say something interesting. And sometimes they do. And sometimes they say things like "this site sucks" in capital letters, to which I can only say: why bother? But that is not the point of this post.

Recently I have noticed comment posts which are purely spam, links to commercial web sites, and the like. I really don't want to disable anonymous comments, but it's a major pain having to go through the comments and delete the spam. What to do? How about: "spammers, go away!".
