I am your host, Gavin Baker. I am a Computer Scientist and Software Engineer based in Melbourne, Australia. I am interested in image processing, video, graphics and 3D, and writing high-performance code. I recently submitted my PhD thesis in Image Processing and 3D Modelling at The University of Melbourne (visit my research pages for more details).
This site is where I write articles on software and the craft of coding, professional development, and the occasional industry observation piece. I tend to write about C++ and Python, but I am particularly interested in learning more about functional languages. I aim to write interesting and useful articles for my fellow coders; the sort of articles I would like to read myself. I have over 15 years professional experience, and I still enjoy learning - both theory and practice.
